“First of all, I would like
to express our deep appreciation to you for always keeping the North Korean
refugees in your prayers and financially supporting them.” NKR is an organization involved in the rescue of and aid for the North Korean refugees in the third world countries and their families. We also raise funds for emergency relief for emergent circumstances for the North Korean refugees and their families. The entire donation raised is used in NKR Emergency Relief Funds.
[Request for emergency medical
aid for the families of North Korean refugees left in North Korea] Sister Soo-Jung' Story Sister Soo-Jung determined to
escape from North Korea just after turning 20 years old to get a job that would
provide for her younger siblings dying of hunger and poverty. However, the
journey to escape from North Korea was different from her expectation. She
married a man in a third world country who has a mental disorder and gave birth
to a girl. Amid shock and pain, she gained an opportunity to move to South
Korea. Soo-Jung has recently heard
from her father that her mother is very sick and currently in hospital in North
Korea. She is still conscious but unable to move around or speak due to paraplegia
from complications. Soo-Jung is in severe shock and emotional pain because her
family in North Korea depends entirely on her mother. She says she knows the medical
treatment costs about 3,000 US dollars, but her father has not told her about
this because he does not want to burden her.
I know Soo-Jung very well
from Nehemiah English School. After visiting the US from the last year’s discipleship
training school, she expressed her excitement with a big smile. she is happy to
be able to dream, which was impossible back in North Korea. She is a person of
diligence and earnestness. Last year, she saved money from her part-time job to
bring her younger sister to South Korea, but she was caught and repatriated to
North Korea. In May, she had to send all her money saved and even some amount
borrowed from her acquaintances to pay for her mother’s fibroid surgery. Even
now, while preparing for college, Soo-Jung has been sending 300 dollars of 600 dollars
that she earns from her part-time job to her family in North Korea and using
what’s left to pay back her debt. She is trying her best to be as responsible
as a mother to the daughter she left behind in the third world country. Life in
South Korea has enabled her to have a dream and desire to achieve it, but the
reality is just too harsh and burdensome for her to endure. so she just had to
request some help.

Sister Choon-Hwa Jung escaped
from North Korea 15 years ago and now lives in secret in a third-world country
with her husband, living off farm work. Just ten days ago, her husband suddenly
passed out from breathing difficulties and was diagnosed with pulmonary emphysema,
a rare disease. Since a few years ago, the symptoms have been showing, but
their lives were just too busy and tight on money to consult a doctor. The husband has
been receiving therapy for weeks since passing out, which had to spend the
entire family savings. Choon-Hwa and her husband
only make about USD $100 monthly from the farm work. Her husband still
has to stay in the ICU for two more weeks to monitor his progress and needs to
receive continuous therapy even after recovery. She feels her future with her
daughter just seems so bleak. She now has to endure all the farm work by
herself to support her 14-year-old daughter while taking care of her sick
husband. Her husband, knowing better about the financial situation than anyone
else, has requested to be discharged from the hospital. But they all know once
he gets out of the hospital, the only thing waiting for him is death.
Having been living a difficult
life after escaping from North Korea, Choon-Hwa happened to meet a random
person in the street who told her about Jesus and Heaven. Hearing about it all,
she thought she would like to go to such a place where there’s no tears or pain.
After accepting Jesus into her life, she started to pray to God about her
husband who is on the verge of death, “Please help my family, God! Please save my
husband!” The total cost of Choon-Hwa’s
needs is $2,000. That includes $1,400 for her husband’s hospital expenses
for the next two weeks and an additional $600 for after-care. Her family needs your help. Please be part of the body of Christ by supporting NKR Emergency Relief Funds.
