Chungcheong's Venue-1
Five event venues for volleyball matches

Volleyball is one of Korea's most popular and most-followed women's sports. The Korean women's volleyball team was ranked 4th during Tokyo 2020, and the caption Kim Yeon-kyung and other volleyball players are drawing lots of public attention, enjoying a large fan base.

The main facility for volleyball during WUG 2027 is Cheonan Yu Kwan-sun Arena, also known as the Hyundai Capital Skywalkers' volleyball team's home ground. Renovated into a smart arena, the Cheonan Yu Kwan-sun Arena's 50-meter-long state-of-the-art LED signboard and information and communication technology (ICT) provide a truly exceptional stadium experience with a wealth of information such as multi-view relays and real-time game records.

Besides the main venue, four other venues are Yi Sun-sin Stadium, Namseoul University Sports Center, Dankook University Cheonan Campus Sports Center, and Sangmyung University Cheonan Campus Sports Center.

Chungcheong's Venue-2
The iconic and spacious Asan Baemi Swimming Center for water polo

Water polo is believed to have originated in Scotland in the late 19th century as a type of "water rugby" and is now a celebrated Olympic sport that is rich in tradition and health benefits. One of water polo's best features is the team motivation factor, and it teaches taking responsibility for actions and cooperation. Many Koreans are getting into this attractive sport and its benefits these days.

FISU Summer Games water polo competition will take place at the Baemi Swimming Center, an internationally accredited second-class swimming center built in 2016. The two above-ground stories and one basement level facility include a 50m ten-lane swimming pool, a 25m three-lane auxiliary pool, a ground training area, and special conveniences for persons with disabilities. The facility has a capacity of 2002 spectators.

Moreover, Baemi Swimming Center is built as an eco-friendly, energy-saving sports facility. The Baemi Swimming Center conserves energy by utilizing the heat generated by the Asan Environmental Science Park waste treatment facility and has installed a solar heating system to achieve Net Zero emissions.

Chungcheong Megacity impresses the FISU Games Summer inspection team

CMBC took a significant step forward in the 2027 WUG bid. Chungcheong Megacity citizens and CMBC warmly welcomed Jing Zhao, Director of FISU Games Summer, and FISU delegations, who arrived on 8 July for a five-day inspection. CMBC was pleased to show the FISU team the qualified host cities-provinces coalition and facilities ready to host 2027 WUG.

The FISU Games Summer inspection team visited 23 potential competition venues (including 19 existing venues), the venue for the opening ceremony, and potential Games village locations. In addition, CMBC delivered its candidature plan, including the Games village operation and efficient transportation plans. The FISU team also visited the Sejong Chungnam University Hospital, the designated Games village's hospital, and was impressed by the excellent medical facilities and highly trained team of professionals.

CMBC is led by Secretary-General Kim Yoon-suk, who once organized a legendary Universiade Gwangju 2015. Jing Zhao, director of FISU Games Summer, said, "I am very happy to come back to Korea, following my nice experience in Gwangju 2015 … this technical evaluation visit has shown us the passion of the region to welcome the FISU Games, and we were quite impressed by the organization as well as the hospitality.”

Ring the golden bell - reached a million signatures campaign goal!

In the last issue, we mentioned the campaign to amass a million signatures supporting CMBC and that it has passed the halfway mark to achieving that goal.

Only a month after, we reached the goal of 1,000,000 signatures! This shows strong public support for Chungcheong 2027 and shared belief in University Sports values.

To celebrate reaching 1,000,000 signatures, Secretary-General Kim Yoon-suk hosted a commemoration ceremony on 16 July, and an invitation was made to Noe Myoung-soon, the 1,000,000th participant in the campaign. At the ceremony, Secretary-General Kim delivered the tablet pc as a prize. Noe said, "After seeing the news on Chungcheong Megacity's bid for 2027 WUG and their efforts to promote the Games, I wanted to give my support and participate in the campaign. I am very honored to be the 1,000,000th participant." She added, "I really wish Chungcheong Megacity wins the bid and many citizens' dreams come true!".

Chungcheong Megacities is home to 66 universities, approximately 20 percent of South Korea's student population. These universities are very welcome to host the 2027 WUG and are giving their best support by organizing an on and offline supporting campaign. Since June, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Far East University, Korea University - Sejong Campus, Korea National University of Education, Hannam University, and more regional universities are organizing a series of promotional events and signatures campaign, encouraging university students' supporting movement in the bid effort.

Although the one million signatures campaign has reached its goal, it will be continued, and all the signatures and supporting messages from the students and citizens will be delivered to the FISU Evaluation Commission, who will be visiting Chungcheong Megacity this August.
